Klairs Soft Airy UV Essence SPF50 PA++++ Review

**Disclaimer: PR gift from Wishtrend, but all thoughts and opinions provided in this review are my own and not influenced by the company in any way.**

KLAIRS Soft Airy UV Essence SPF50 PA++++

PRODUCT INFO:

The Klairs Soft Airy UV Essence SPF 50 PA++++ is an everyday sun protector for sensitive skin. As is it water-based, it holds a gel-type texture to give a soft weightless and light finish. Also with its high SPF and PA level, it completely guards the skin against UVA, UVB without leaving any greasiness or white cast.

This sunscreen from Klairs is also cruelty free and vegan friendly. It retails on Wishtrend for USD23 for 80ml.

PACKAGING:

The silver foil design on the tube does start to fade and rub off

This is part of the Klairs Freshly Juiced Line of skincare so the packaging is in line with the other products such as the Vitamin E Mask – reviewed here. I love the silver holographic packaging which catches the light in beautiful ways and makes it fun to take pictures of! The sunscreen itself comes in a nice big squeezy tube with a minimalist white design. What I wish Klairs would change on their packaging is the silver parts of the design – it always comes off very easily with the slightest rub and transfers onto your hands.

Regardless, I appreciate the soft tube packaging which makes it travel friendly. The tube is so squishy I would just be careful that you don’t press down on it too hard when unscrewing the cap because it will end up squeezing out way too much and make a mess.

INGREDIENTS:

Ingredients

Klairs prides itself on its clean, safe ingredients that are gentle and suitable for even sensitive skin. The ingredients in this sunscreen are all EWG green level approved and notably include niacinamide (brightening), adenosine (anti-aging), panthenol and beta-glucan (wound-healing) and sea buckthorn oil (antioxidant, anti-inflammatory).

The sun protection ingredients used in this are diethylamino hydroxybenzoyl hexyl benzoate and ethylhexyl triazone. These are chemical UV filters thus making it a chemical sunscreen (you can read the difference between chemical vs mineral here). Essentially this means the UV filters are absorbed into your skin which in turn absorb the harmful UV rays, convert it into heat and release it from your body.

APPLICATION:

Pointed applicator tip gives good control of dispensing product

As with all sunscreen application, this should be applied as the last step in your skincare routine and before you apply makeup. This means after moisturiser but before your primer or foundation.

As all chemical suncreens take time to absorb into your skin and provide the optimal protection against UV rays, you should ideally be applying this 15-30 minutes before you leave the house and are exposed to the sun. If you wear makeup I would wait at least 5 minutes after sunscreen before going in with your base.

Make sure you use a liberal amount to cover your entire face and neck. Dermatologists say we should be using 1/4 of a teaspoon to get the most effective protection and while I don’t measure the amount I use every day, I do try to be liberal and judge it based on how much my skin can take without it starting to feel too suffocated.

This sunscreen is recommended as one that you can re-apply over makeup (as we should be topping up every 2-3 hours with sun exposure). To be honest I haven’t tested this out because I never re-apply any liquid sunscreen over my makeup. I rarely am exposed to long periods of sun in the UK, so I have to admit on a day to day work basis, I never top up my sunscreen after the initial application. If I did though, I’d be more likely to use a sunscreen powder or cushion over my makeup.

CONSISTENCY/TEXTURE:

As the name suggests, this is soft and airy which makes it a pleasure to use. It isn’t really that essence-like in my opinion though and I’ve tried other essence sunscreens (both mineral and chemical) that are more lightweight and milky. This one leans slightly on the creamier side and reminds me of a light lotion or emulsion. However, it does apply really nicely. It spreads easily and absorbs quickly into the skin without feeling greasy. It leaves no dreaded white cast (even though it comes out the tube very white, it imparts no colour), which makes it great for every skin tone. If I do apply too much though, it can feel a teeny bit heavy and tacky so you do need to be careful to ensure your previous skincare products have sufficiently absorbed into your skin before you apply a big dollop of this. (Which I can be guilty of if I’m in a rush in the mornings). Likewise, make sure you leave enough time for the suncreen to settle and dry down on your skin before going in with your foundation base.

What I do love about this though, is that even when you apply a lot of this water-based sunscreen you never look overly dewy or oily. This is a problem I have with chemical sunscreens like the Make P:rem Blue Ray sun gel where you can get very shiny and oily if you apply liberally. This Klairs UV essence simply makes you look hydrated with a natural semi-matte finish.

SCENT:

This is aimed for sensitive skin so as with all Klairs products, there is no strong added fragrance. There is a very light chemical scent which comes naturally from the ingredients including a couple of essential oils.

THOUGHTS:

I’m always hesitant to try out new sunscreens and tend to stick to good ones that I’m familiar with. For me, having the right formulation (combined with high UV protection) is the key part of why I’m able to wear sun protection every day. I don’t like ones that are difficult to apply, alter my skin condition and disrupt how my makeup wears on top of it. (Check out my post here on why we should wear sunscreen all year round).

I’m extremely happy with the Klairs Soft Airy UV Essence in this respect as it meets my expectations – it’s very hydrating, blends smoothly, absorbs and dries down quickly and leaves no white cast. This is the perfect type of broad-spectrum sunscreen I will appreciate in the colder months because it won’t dry me out like some mineral sunscreens tend to do in Winter when my skin gets more dehydrated. My makeup sits well over this without pilling, and does not affect its longevity nor increase my oil production during the day. This would be well suited for all skin types and especially if you have sensitive or dry skin and have avoided sunscreens for being heavy, drying, unblendable and thick.

I’m not sure if this would be my go-to sunscreen in summer though just because I do prefer a more milky, watery consistency for the hot weather like the Etude House Sunprise Mild Airy Finish. I also tend to prefer mineral sunscreens during that time of year just because I like to know I have immediate protection right after application and that my makeup won’t disrupt the efficacy if I don’t leave a long enough wait time after sunscreen application. Mineral ones also tend to last longer as they sit on your skin, while chemical filters are absorbed and break down after a couple hours due to its process of converting UV rays into heat. If you read my sunscreen 101 post you can find more details about why I prefer a well-formulated mineral sunscreen. This is entirely my personal preference and nothing against the Klairs Soft Airy UV Essence. I do really enjoy using the Klairs one and will definitely be using this for the rest of the year and repurchasing for the colder months.

Mizon Multi Function Formula All in One Snail Repair Cream Review

mizon.jpg

In today’s review, I will be talking about a veritable cult favourite: Mizon’s snail cream, or, as it is also known, Multi Function Formula Snail Repair Cream. As far as I can see, this is available online only. I have trawled quite a few blogs in both Korean and English, and even their company site, as far as I can remember, only delivers online. This, of course, can be tricky for those of us who would much prefer testing a product in person before buying.

EDIT: The company contacted me to advise that their products are also available through a store called Village 11 Factory, Sinsa, Garosugil. I have not personally been to this store, so if you have been, please share your experiences in the comments.

This retails for KRW39,900 last time I checked locally, though Mizon frequently puts these babies on sale. I remember purchasing them for about a manner (KRW10,000, roughly USD 9) in the past.

What it is

This cream is housed in a dark brown glass jar and comes with a protective plastic lid. To be honest, the packaging could be improved on. A pump would be much better suited to this product in my opinion, as the cream is quite runny and would lend itself to pumping or using a different kind of dispenser.

The cream is a translucent white gel cream.

How it applies

Due to its slightly gelly, viscous, slimy texture, this goes on very smoothly and spreads easily.

How it smells

Of pretty much nothing. Perhaps a slightly playdoh-y scent that does not linger and is non-intrusive.

How I felt about it

This is not meant to replace your regular moisturiser, it is meant to go UNDER your moisturiser according to Mizon. A lot of people seem to be confused by this concept. This is not meant to replace the last step of your current skincare routine – it goes on after toning. You then follow up with serums, moisturisers, oils, sleeping masks and the like. This is how I used the snail cream, too: I would tone first and then follow up with moisturising serums, essences, moisturisers, oils (evening routine) or sunscreens (morning routine).

When I was still using the cream, this was helpful in managing my acne and reducing overall inflammation. I did not find it to be very moisturising and thought of it as a treatment product for acne breakouts. It did indeed work very well when used in this manner, as my breakouts were reduced while I was using it.

When I first started using it, I saw the best results from a single product that I had seen in a long time; breakouts were reduced and future acne sort of went back in itself.

Final Thoughts

I would consider repurchasing this in the future. I just wish it were accessible instore somewhere, as I actually do not like online shopping. I also wish that it were a bit more hydrating. This was fine when I was in my mid-20s, however now that I am fast approaching 30 and my skin is getting a bit drier, this is slightly drying at this point in time. For now, I am using up different products and am focusing more on hydrating ingredients and moisturising skin care.

iUNIK Tea Tree Relief Serum Review

🌿TEA TREE RELIEF SERUM 🌿
🔑 Tea Tree Leaf Water 67%.
🔑 Centella Asiatica Leaf Water 19.5%.
• Reviewing this in terms of its claims:
🍃 Powerful Relief: I do find this to be relieving but perhaps not as powerful as it claims. However, it does provide relief every single time I apply this without fail.
🍃 Soothing Care: I find that my skin is less inflamed every time I use this, in this way it does soothe and to some extent reduce pain when I am breaking out.
🍃 Natural Moisturising: In terms of moisture this does not provide a ton but does enough as I have not noticed any dry patches recently. However, I feel this is more down to my whole skincare routine rather than just this one product.
🍃 Whitening and wrinkle care: I think by whitening they actually mean brightening, which this serum hasn’t noticeably done for my skin. In terms of wrinkle care I don’t really have wrinkles but I’ve been using this on my forehead to see whether it’ll help with my frown lines in which makeup sometimes tends to set but it has not helped with that.
💚 Overall I rate this 3.5/5, this serum is just satisfactory, I wouldn’t say I’m disappointed by it but I’m just not wowed. Would I repurchase, not really, unless I notice anything impressive from continued use. I will say I have been using this for 2 months or so and there is still so much left!

Eyenlip  Calamansi Vitamin Solution Mask Review

[ Notice: photo watermarks was my username before. Read the important notice here: click ]
📍 Claims:
✔️ Calamansi contains about 30 times more Vitamin C than lemon so it’s great for beauty treatments and gives your skin what you should be proud of.
✔️ Provides vitamins to the dull and lifeless skin to vitalize so that you can be confident about your skin.
✔️ This is a mask that contains Niacinamide with Adenosine components that helps with skin whitening and wrinkle reduction.

✔️ The soft feeling of natural color microfiber sheet that allows anyone to use it without irritation.

👸🏼 Impression:
✨ True to its words, it doesn’t leave any stingy feeling on my skin.

✔️ Odorless. I don’t have any issues with the smell but, just in case some of you do have, then this mask will be great for you.
✨ Contains a lot of serum left in the package. You can use it with your DIY mask by soaking it in the serum inside the package or put the serum on your neck.
🤔 The mask reminds me of Watson’s 365 mask (due to its thin feel)
✔️ Leaves my skin feeling soft and hydrated. Fit for dry and other types of skin.

So far, I haven’t had any issues or breakouts caused by the mentioned products. I usually am careful with Mask Sheets as some made my skin break out even after the first use.
Where to Purchase: I got this as a freebie from Kyoung’s Korean Cosmetic.

SanDaWha Liposome Skin Softener Review

Been wanting to review this one forever but life seems to keep getting in the way. 😭

Legit got sent home from work this week bc I got sick after working the weekend so had to fly twice in one day. 🙄

ANYWAY…picked up this #SanDaWhaLiposome Skin Softener from @beautytapofficial in mid-May and I’m already 2/3 of the way through the bottle…all you skincare junkies out there know that’s the highest compliment and means I really love it. 😂

Unlike western toners which are often on the more astringent side, this #kbeauty skin softener is milky and hydrating and soothing and nutrient-rich and light all at the same time. 😍

Very lightly and pleasantly scented, a bit floral…a bit citrus-y…fades pretty quickly, which is just the way I like it. 😊

My skin always feels immediately softer and nourished (if it’s possible for your skin to FEEL nourished haha)…it’s full of herbal extracts including camellia flower, a staple in Asian skincare w antioxidant and moisturizing properties. 💕

Skin feels a little sticky/tacky immediately after applying but this doesn’t bother me since toning is the first step in my routine so any tackiness gets quickly covered up with the following layers. 🙃

I’ve been using this literally every day and can’t keep my hands off of it…basically about to purchase a refill before I’m done even though I have other toners I haven’t touched yet 🤷‍♀️ honestly, it’s #HolyGrailstatus for me and when I saw it on BeautyTap’s Top KBeauty Toners list I couldn’t help but agree. 😁

Have you tried this at all? What are your favorite toners? 👇

COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence Review 🐌

image2

Let me just start off by saying that this item really lives up to the hype! And to be completely honest I think it’s definitely earned its place on my holy grail list.

This was one of the first products that introduced me to k-beauty and it’s a damn good introduction to the entire world that is Korean skincare and Cosrx as a brand.

This product contains a whopping 96% of Snail Mucin filtrate as the name suggests, making it super soothing, healing, and moisturizing.

I’ve definitely noticed that since I’ve started using this product, any spots that I have that I pick at heals a lot faster. Although I don’t see this helping with hyperpigmentation too much it still works very well in healing over the skin.

The texture of this is super stringy and slimey, it’s what you’d expect Snail Mucin to feel like. The first bottle I got was more of a gel compared to my second bottle, which makes me wonder how fresh my first bottle was. But it still works the same and keeps my skin super plump and hydrated.

This is also just a great product to layer with since it’s moisturizing and sinks in super quickly! With no trace of tackiness or a film. I also like to use this around my eyes instead of an eye cream because it’s lighter and really helps any dry patches I have around my eyes to become hydrated again.

Overall, I really enjoy this product and feel like I can’t live without it now that I use it.

I would definitely repurchase this product and I already have one as a backup. This is such a well-rounded product that deserves all the hype that it gets! I can’t recommend it enough!
